Practice for Punches

Practice for Punches

By Julia Kossuth

This year, the Studios of Sarah Strout are doing a new practice incentive: Practice for Punches! Our students will be able to see their progress as they achieve punches in the cards for practice time.

ClockOur students are required to achieve a certain number of practice minutes relative to their grade each week; if they practice their total minutes, they get a punch in their card! For each day’s worth of extra practice (Kindergarten = 10 minutes, 1st grade = 15 minutes, etc.) the student will get a bonus punch.

  • Kindergarten — 10 minutes per day, 5 days per week, total: 50 minutes per week
  • Grades 1, 2, & 3 — 15 minutes per day, 5 days per week, total: 75 minutes per week
  • Grades 3 & 4 — 20 minutes per day, 5 days per week, total: 100 minutes per week
  • Grades 5 & 6 — 25 minutes per day, 5 days per week, total: 125 minutes per week
  • Grade 7 — 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week, total: 150 minutes per week
  • Grades 8, 9, & 10 — 45 minutes per day, 5 days per week, total: 225 minutes per week
  • Grades 11 & 12 — 60 minutes per day, 5 days per week, total: 300 minutes per week

We will be displaying the completed punch cards for everyone to see in the studio. At the end of the school year, the top earning students will earn a trophy in their age group!

What are some ways you’ve motivated your students to practice?
