Music Game Review: Scale Scramble

Music Game Review: Scale Scramble

I love having new games in my studio, and I have to tell you this one’s a keeper. It’s called SCALE SCRAMBLE.

It’s basically a big deck of cards with multiples of every possible scale step, as well as cards marked as “Tonic” and “Guppy”, which is like a wild card. I read the instructions, and I have to admit, I didn’t get it. You’re supposed to frantically trades cards with other students until you get a full scale… I don’t really understand why.

Instead, we play it in the style of GO FISH.

Each player get’s seven cards and the objective is to make a complete scale. When it’s your turn, you ask someone for a card and if they have it, they give it to you. If not, you “go fish” and take a card from the deck. You hold onto your cards until a full scale has formed. The student who gets a scale first, wins.

My students love this game and I love this game. There’s strategy involved. You NEED to know many different scales to have a higher chance of winning, so this game has been an incentive for my students to learn more scales. I highly recommend it!

Here’s a link to where you can buy it on amazon.
